A new year and a new, exciting Job Search Engine - one which has already won an award from Job.Hunt.com! Get ready to cruise over to Indeed.com!
What a great way to start the new year - with a fresh approach to your job search AND a new job search engine to help you!
Indeed.com is the new kid on the block, and has already knocked over a few stagnant sites. This comprehensive site offers a one-stop shop for your search needs, and is actually an aggregator or collector of the matches of your criteria from other dependable sites.
In 2005, Indeed.com was honoured as one of 50 coolest sites from Time Magazine, and this site shows no signs of slowing down. Available for Canada and US, the compilation of appropriate and potential leads from your chosen criteria has helpfully eliminated most scams that appear in most job searches.
As reported by Sophie Beaurpere, Marketing Manager for Indeed.com, this site offers the "freshest job listings, as no listing stays on our site more than 30 days". An active filter is used to weed out duplicates and scams - which, for the active searcher, is a major bonus! As well, the site offers an excellent Job Trends Tool and Salary Search Tool (this is a MUST for anyone trying to change career paths). I found the Job Trends to be fun as it creates a graph from words you supply, and it also automatically uses those words to create links for you to see potential jobs on those words.
One very small complaint is that it cannot filter out (as yet) if you want your criteria to just appear in the listing or if it should state "yes, I want this word to be part of the job". Sounds confusing, but when I asked for Telecommute - I received many listings which stated "Telecommute - no", which is not what I wanted to find obviously. But a quick filter to ask for "Telecommute yes" gave me the appropriate list without the negatives. So of course your results will depend on your input - as usual, you, the user, must give it appropriate criteria. What impresses me is how easy it was to correct this minor detail.
But the most fun and learning curve comes with using the Salary Search! While of course based on US funds (and therefore US cities/states), I had a riot checking out various job positions and figuring out if I could live on that salary for that job - did you know that bloggers make an average of $34,000 usd?? Hey, I could do that - one job and one salary!! Talk about a switch from always having to find contracts. Hmmm, maybe I should check this out a little more - and get back to you later (with my new job!).
Indeed.com - check it out!
Note: I intend to do a more in-depth article on Indeed.com as well as other job sites, but didn't want to keep readers from this great site any longer!
