What's out there for Career Assessment - where can I go for some quick Career tests or personality assessments, or even career information.
Many readers have responded to me about finding the right career - or at least starting on that path. While the previous articles have dealt with trying to do this type of career assessment on your own - I do realize many of you need some sort of way to kick-start this process. Interested in what your personality assessment might be? Just want some career information - read on!
So here are a few sites you can check out - some charge a fee, but most provide some sort of free career assessment to help you get started. Beware though - some are just ways to vent your anger about your boss - I put this one in to show you how inaccurate assessments can be.
Advisor Team - Temperment sorter
(www.advisorteam.com/temperament_sorter/register.asp?partid=1) - Take this free 70 question test to find out your basic temperment - further analysis at a cost. According to them, I am an Idealist (which I already knew) - but there are four types of idealists - and you pay to find out your configuration. Nope, not going any further - but the free report is worth the time.
The Career Key (www.careerkey.org/) - a small fee of $7.95 - but you get lots of direct links to the type of jobs you tested for. If I was going to pay for any, it would be this one.
WhatHalf (www.whathalf.com) - here you can take the sample test for free - but pay for a full test. Honestly, with the free one, you can see what is coming as the questions are extremely narrow - but hey, it IS free. I'm more interested in their Brain test, but not at $3.95 to register and no information on how much the tests will be.
Career Planner (www.careerplanner.com/) - lots of information and lots of freebies AFTER you purchase. BUT they have a great list of jobs (12,000!!!) which, when clicked - gives you excellent information on that job - what it actually entails. This one is worth a bookmark for later reference.
Improve Now (www.improvenow.com/Assessments/) - here's the site where you rate your boss anonymously. To me, a waste of energy and a lack of professionalism - but check it out anyway. I'd heard of free anonymous sites to send co-workers gentle reminders of health problems (ie you have major body odor) - but this is even worse.
So, try these out and let me know how you did on the free tests.
