Career Advice for the holidays

Taking Time for Yourself

Dec 21, 2006 Paym Bergson

With all the holiday preparations, what are you doing for yourself?

As you prepare for the holiday of your choosing, don't forget to spend time and effort on yourself. Through all the hectic arrangements, plan for some "down time" that you will use to reflect on your own thoughts, wishes, and goals. And no, not just for your Career Life, but your personal life and growth as well.

In the wee hours of the morning (which, for most working people, is the only time they often get for personal time) take the time to just look out at the sky. If you can, try to get outside and stare up at the stars. It's a sobering yet heady feeling; the vastness of the sky reaching into the unknown. Realize you CAN guide your life through this unknown, you just need to prepare yourself for the journey. Take a moment to accept your accomplishments, and figure out which ones you want to pursue. Or just take a deep breath and pat yourself on the back for a life well done - and IT IS a life well done - you've gotten this far, and you can go further.

So, while you try to maintain a relative calm amongst the relatives' visitatations, as nerves are frayed and feelings of inadequacy to the moment well up in the chest, remember that moment with the sky, just you and the universe. It really does all fall into place. And helping it along the way doesn't hurt either.

We'll continue with first steps on a chosen path in the new year.

May the holidays be whatever you want them to be! Try now to relax and enjoy them!
