If you feel you are in a rut, consider upgrading your education. Take a course for a potential new career. There's still time to look, apply and register for a course.

It's September, and most of you remember the days of preparing for school with trepidation mixed with excitement and hope. Get that feeling back by upgrading your skills - look into part time courses or even full time challenges.

Where To Look:

  • Colleges

Many colleges still have room and will help you make that transition if you want full time. Even better though, is to talk to the college about part time courses -- day or evening, depending on what fits into your busy schedule. Night time courses will only run if there are enough participants -- so your presence could even make or break that course. It's a great way to test out your compatibility for a new career: take one or two courses that will lead to that new choice, to see if you do like that kind of work, or if going back to school full time might work for you.

  • Trade Schools

Trade schools are classified as such because they offer continuous enrollment into diploma or degree programs. Many programs such as Accounting and Business Applications will help you get ahead within the regular business environment. You can also get a diploma in Office Administration or Computer Applications at trade schools.

  • Local High Schools

Your local municipality will also offer many classes at the local high schools at night. You can get your high school diploma, take interest courses, or even learn a new language. These are subsidized by your local government, so the course fees are very reasonable. Don't forget though that many courses may require a lab fee or material fee. Again, this is a great way to try out a course in a potential new career.

Why Take a Course

Upgrading your skills, or taking a course for interest, keeps your mind sharp. It also shows your employer you are willing to invest in yourself. Often your place of employment will reimburse you for courses taken that will help you in your work. Check with your Human Resource or Personnel Department.

Bottom Line

Take advantage of the fall excitement and a fresh start. Consider taking a course to upgrade your skills or a course because you always wanted to know how to develop film. Be it for work or for personal interest, you will come out ahead with new knowledge and a new feeling of accomplishment.
