Screening Interview
Usually one-on-one, the interviewer is doing a sort of pre-interview so as not to waste the actual manager's/hiring person's time. This is where you get a taste of what kinds of questions you'll be asked should you get to the next level. It's also to again ensure you really DO have that experience or knowledge you say you do. The interviewer is also trying to see if you'll fit the company's culture. It is also a chance for you to ask some basic questions such as remuneration, benefits, vacation, growth potential, etc. Find out at the beginning of the interview (hopefully you asked when you got this interview) what level the person is who is interviewing you - if they are the hiring person, the person whom you'll be working with, or what. This type of interview usually leads to the next stage.
One On One/Two On One Interviews
These are the most common; you get an interview and one or two people are there. Usually, this is it, other than higher up the ladder means you do this type more often for one company as varying managers, CEO's etc. get a chance to meet you and size you up.
Here's your time to shine!
Don't be afraid to repeat yourself from one interview to the next. Remember, the person you are talking to now may not have received many or any details from the previous interviewer.
If you made it this far, chances are you have a good chance of getting the position. This is the time to expand on what you previously did and how it applies to the prospective job. Usually, this is also the time you'll be asked for ways to handle problems or difficult situations. Just remain calm and approach it from a perspective of investigating and action plan - and remember to ensure you say you'd get appropriate approval for any of your suggestions or actions.
