A solution to finding work - why not work while you look for work? Temporary Agencies help you do just that!
For many of you who are in-between jobs, been laid off, or have lost or left a job - paying those mounting bills becomes paramount and increases the stress factor of looking for work. So consider this very viable option - work with and for a Temp Agency. Not only will you get paid, but the psychological benefits of being able to say "I'm working" far outweigh any negative connotations you USED to have. Temporary Agencies work with you - in figuring out what days you are willing to work, what area you are willing to travel to work, and what days you must have off.
Many people actually use the Temp Agency as their main employer - a mom can work during the school months but take off the summer months to be with her children, and STILL get those valuable benefits normally granted those who work all year; students can gain valuable work experience by "temping" for the summer. And many others use these Agencies to help tide them over between jobs.
Temp Agencies have grown and matured - there are agencies that deal with every aspect a business and community needs to keep going and growing. Agencies are no longer limited to only "hard labour" or "simple clerical". No, you won't be the CEO replacement, but you will be a valuable addition to a company that needs someone NOW, or to a company that can't afford a full time/full year position but still needs that workload attended to.
Mind you, you will still have to prove yourself to the agency - yes, they will check your references (and consider this an excellent way to find out what your references really say about you); and they will test you on any abilities you say you have (within reason, of course - do you really know your software - they will give a simple test to ensure you DO know what you are doing). Remember, when the Temp Agency sends you out, you represent that Agency - and they get repeat business based on how well you did (or didn't) do.
Working for and with a Temp Agency is not for everyone - you have to be willing to constantly learn the policy of each client you serve, you have to be willing to be alert and flexible to the changing demands of each client, and you have to be willing to constantly meet new people - people that just may help you in your search for a more permanent position.
Hmm, sounds like a great way to network, use your skills, and get paid! So open up the yellow pages to find the right agency for you!
