Quick fixes and easy solutions are the norm for many. But they don't build the kind of character that is required to create a life of wealth and fulfillment.
Discipline is a personal quality lacking in today's world. Media advertising has instilled the belief that success can't be had without the aid of a credit card. Many people believe that easy solutions and quick fixes are the answer to every problem. They look for methods that don't require any effort. Goal setting is not a priority. But when something goes wrong, few blame themselves for their lack of discipline. Discipline must be developed before wealth and lasting happiness is assured. Those who achieve success do so through hard work and dedication. They develop a strong will that carries them through any obstacle. No matter how bad the economy, they continue to thrive. An iron willed discipline is not easy to achieve. It requires effort. But those who take the steps build an unshakable character and rate among society's elite. A Defined PurposeEveryone is born to succeed. Most people, however, have no purpose other than earning a paycheck to pay their bills. Life means going to school, graduating with honors, finding a good job, getting married and raising a family until retirement. This definition is limited, it allows no room for imagination, individuality or self-expression. The individual who has a clear idea of who he is and what he wants sets himself apart from everyone else. He knows there's more to life than a job and a spouse. Goal SettingEveryone must have a goal. It must be something that inspires them to reach new heights. While many have ideas of what they would like to be, their ideas are vague. They want more money, but have no idea how much nor how to acquire it. Most people find it easier to just drift. They accept the media's definition of success by what they see advertised on television or read in the daily paper. But the lack of goal setting eventually leads to frustration and poverty. Goal PlanningIf setting a concrete goal is hard, it's harder still to lay down a step-by-step plan for achieving it. Most people take great pains to plan a wedding or their vacation, but when it comes to mapping out a life strategy, they procrastinate, delay until too many years slip by. Success and wealth depend on the effort given toward goal planning. Planning requires laying down yearly, monthly, weekly and daily steps and enforces discipline. Overcome Fear by Taking RisksFear freezes creativity. It's what keeps many from moving forward. But fear and doubt can be overcome. They should be used as springboards for greater success. Many people have far more skills and talents than they give themselves credit for. They believe they don't deserve success or fear what taking the adventure may bring should they fail. The way to overcome fear is by taking risks. The Belief FactorNo one can be inspired to do great things unless they have the desire to achieve. All great men and women throughout the ages saw possibilities and believed they were meant to succeed despite the obstacles. They could see and feel success as if they had already achieved it well before they took that first step. The belief factor is a strong emotion. It's what makes the goal real. It's what creates desire, the desire that leads to action and action to achievement. Ongoing EducationSadly many believe that education stops once they've acquired a diploma. But learning is a lifelong affair. The diploma tells everyone you have an education, it does not tell them you have experience. And experience comes from constant learning. Everyone needs to be more effective on the job. They need to develop the discipline required to become a leader to their families and their community. Successful people are constant readers. They learn through seminars, books and contact with mentors and business associates. PersistenceNone ever succeeds unless they commit themselves to a plan until they are successful. Life throws many stumbling blocks along the way. But those problems are there to develop discipline. A life of ease and comfort doesn't present the opportunity to develop patience or persistence Discipline can't be learned by looking for an easy way out. It requires effort. Every event, every problem helps to build the characteristics that separate the successful from the failures.
