Are you looking to get a boost in your career? Try a few of these simple steps to get noticed and get promoted!

Climbing the corporate ladder is a tough game. If you’re looking to grow your career and move up quickly, there are a few ways to increase your professional opportunities.

Build Your Reputation

From the first day in the office you are building your professional reputation. Ask yourself this question: What do you want your name to be associated with? Make every effort to build an image of integrity and enthusiasm. No matter what position you are currently in, build a reputation for high quality work, responsibility, dedication for the job. Others will notice you and remember you.

Get to Know Your Colleagues

Networking plays a huge role in business. Who you know is vitally important to your career. If people like and respect you, they will be much more willing to consider you for future positions. They will also be more likely to support you by “putting in a good word” with others. Make connections at the office and your opportunities will multiply quickly.

Voice Your Ideas

Don’t be afraid to share your thoughts, opinions and ideas with others. Let your voice be heard! People who blend into the shadows don’t get promoted. Express yourself and others will appreciate your contribution. Don’t expect that your ideas will always (or ever) be used. But it’s still an opportunity to show your creativity.

Show Up

You have to be willing to put in the time and the work necessary to get promoted. You can’t just go through the motions. Put out some big effort to show you are serious and committed. Those who are willing to work longer hours and make personal sacrifices will often be rewarded. Though it might not work for you (and it might not work for long) dedication is appreciated.

Build the Business

Even if it’s not your job, bringing in new business will make a huge impact on your superiors. The ultimate goal in any business is to get more business. When you introduce a new client, you are showing your commitment to the goals of the business. You are also showing that you believe in what the business has to offer.

Sell yourself

Don’t be afraid of “tooting your own horn”. You know how valuable you are so be sure others do as well. It’s not arrogant to recognize and respect your own capabilities. Be professional, confident. and assertive. Show your abilities and take pride in your work.

Seek New Responsibilities

Always be willing to take on new roles and learn new skills. By showing your willingness to grow and accept challenges, others will view you as a team player and a potential future leader. Opportunity is all around you – open your eyes and take advantage of it.

Ask For It

Promotions are not always handed out. Sometimes, you have to convince people that you’re ready for the challenge. Explain how the career move will benefit the company as a whole and show how your abilities are a perfect fit for the new role. Don’t wait around for others to recognize your talents. Step out there and ask for what you deserve.
