Training - not just a short cut to better pay, but a better person - YOU.

Training is the quickest and easiest way to not only find a new job or challenge, but will increase your salary at the same time. Now - this does mean you have to finish and complete the training - while just taking a few courses will enhance your potential, you must complete a program to get guaranteed results. No surprises there. So this week in Career Advice we'll take a look at some training programs you might consider investing your time and money. Remember, you are investing in yourself first and foremost.

First, decide what kind of training or upgrading you're looking for. Do you want to improve your computer efficiency? Do you need a professional designation to compete further in your career? Just want to see what it's like if you go back to school? Want to just take an interest course in that hobby you've been meaning to pursue? HUH? You mean by taking an interest course I can get a better paid job? Well, actually yes - didn't expect that, eh? What happens is when you start taking an interest in "bettering" yourself, you gain confidence and generally happier. This in turn shows up in ALL parts of your life - including how you deal with your job and co-workers, even how you deal with the boss. A person engaging in ANY learning activity is a more satisfied and alert person - which definitely reflects how you deal with all situations.

The easiest place to start is with your local Community or Recreation centres. Many provide pamphlets and course booklets for what's being offered in your community, often through the public high schools. Take a look for some quick computer upgrade courses - a great way to get your feet wet for computer courses. The courses offered through your municipalities are subsidized by your taxes - and so are very affordable. Check out the general interest courses too - you may get an idea for something that will enhance your current work situation.

Next time we'll check out some other areas for training.
