Welcome to Career Advice - your starting point for your choice in life! Check back here often for Tips and Hints to help you on your path!

Welcome to Suite's Career Advice. Come along with me as we find the best route for you to take on your path in life. Your job or career is a major part of your life and aspirations - so find out how to get the best of it and for it!

This is NOT a column about what the best jobs are - but it IS about finding out what is best for you. And yes, only you can figure that out. Consider this your starting point on the path you decide.

Future articles will deal with how to change careers, where to start on your research, and tips and hints on how to keep your sanity while finding the work you want.

Please note - this Topic will NOT be limited to what our culture perceives as the "high end" jobs - but will emphasize the work that will make you happy. Let's face it - we all need to work to supply the monetary gain to provide a safe habitat, food on the table, and other creature comforts (fill in the designer or status symbols of your choice, once needs are met). But most of us also work to get a sense of self - to feel worthwhile and productive within our society. If the work provides you with enough monetary gain for your lifestyle while keeping you with a smile on your face - then that's the job for you!

What you'll find here is how to decide what job gets that smile on your face - and helps to keep it there on a daily basis. You'll also find advice on how to deal with pressure on the job, or how to make the best of bad situations. So make the decision now to join me weekly on this journey - and please share with all of us your "war stories" - both good and bad! Feel free to post any comments or concerns, or ways you were able to stay in control.

And remember - the sun is always shining........somewhere!

Hello Paym,

I enjoyed reading your blog about food service jobs. In my experience in HR, people with McD's experience listed on their resume have a leg up in a recruiter's eyes. They are seen as well trained, customer service reps that understand selling techniques and working as a team player.

I encourage young people to get entry-level experience in a well respected chain that is known for top-notch training and development. I also agree that it can be a GREAT job for moms or others who want to work short shifts or others who require flexibility in their work schedule.

Also, companies like McD's are huge and so they have large corporate offices as well. The CSR position while in school could lead to a HQ job on graduation.
