People enter and leave New York City for many reasons but once the reality of living there begins to kick in, it might not be all that it's hyped up to be.
New York is a mecca for world culture, first class dining, entertainment services as well as being a venue for intellectual enlightenment and progressive ideologies. It also has a lot of unique people whom the regular passerby wouldn’t meet anywhere else as well as being able to see celebrities and world-renowned specialists walking around the street corner without anyone pestering them for an autograph all the time. Reasons For Moving Into New York CityPeople move to New York City for a variety reasons whether it’s to jump-start a career with aspirations that they’ll be able to make it big and gain success and wealth. It could be that they’ve always wanted to live in Manhattan and are attracted to the glamour and glitz that is associated with it. And one should not forget about the level of sophistication that people like to use when bragging that they live in a certain area of Manhattan, whether it’s the chic crowd in SoHo, the intellectuals in the Upper West Side, the old money and well-to-do folks in the Upper East Side, the hip grungy art chaps of the Lower East Side/East Village and don’t forget the night owls of the West Village. So there are several good reasons to move to New York and becoming a New York import but when is it time to consider a change in scenery after one has been living in the Big Apple for a while? Here are a few reasons why people might consider becoming export New Yorkers and utilizing their New York savvy elsewhere. The Economy And City LivingFace it, the recession has hurt the nation as a whole but New York City has been hit extremely hard with 9% of the city's population being unemployed as well as an even larger percentage of people who also lost their jobs due to layoffs, etc. and are taking lower paying jobs just to make ends meet. Also, a large number of businesses that have been around for a long time have decided to close up shop since they can no longer pay rent for the expensive space. Since New York has been hit pretty hard, the idea of leaving it has become more attractive to people as they can escape the high cost of living in such an expensive city by relocating to a cheaper place with more opportunities for people with their skills and experience. New York City And High Real Estate PricesMost of the people living in Manhattan aren’t exactly living the life of luxury with spacious rooms and gardens galore. However, they’re spending thousands for miniscule space that people elsewhere would say is insane, and perhaps rightly so. However, living in New York requires mostly a firm commitment and compromise for living in little space in order to live the New York lifestyle and working to advance in hopes of making more money in order to afford a more decent space. However, for some people there might be a limit as to how long they're willing to make this compromise if they're not getting the desired results. As a result, they might end up leaving to a cheaper and more affordable city like Chicago, etc where they can get more space for less money than they would have spent in New York. Too Much Work And Not Enough PlaytimeTo live and work in NYC as well as being successful usually means that long hard hours are the standard norm for most work environments, especially during an economic recession where people are more willing to please their employers in order to secure their livelihoods. For some people too much work and not enough playtime might prove disastrous to their emotional well being. When it's time to make compromises this might be something worth considering as it's a common trait for successful people in New York to sacrifice their personal happiness in exchange for careerism that is nonstop 24 hours and 7 days a week. For people looking to have fun and work in a laid back environment, it might be worth it to live elsewhere while still doing well professionally but in a less intense atmosphere. ConclusionIn conclusion, New York is a great place to live in but it requires making compromises in living standards and personal well-being. Things like this should not be taken lightly at all. However, New York is a better desirable place to live in when the economy is doing well and when unemployment rates are lower than they are now. New York isn't easy to live in but during a recession, it's even less of a picnic. This is why many New Yorkers are fleeing elsewhere because they realize they can do a lot better for themselves by being a big fish in a smaller pond whether it's temporary or long term.
