Downsized!

It's never easy to know or understand why a company decides to downsize, or even WHO to downsize, but the most important point to remember is that, under NO UNCERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES is this a fault of yours, nor could you have prevented it.

No, it does not mean you were considered unworthy or of little value. Usually it's just that there is redundacy in the company, or that departments must double up on their type of work, and the luck of the draw pointed your way as one of those to be downsized. Let's face it - we don't call it fired or let go, we call it "downsized" - to soften the blow of losing one's job.

The reasons really don't matter - what does matter is YOU. You will probably go through a type of "grieving" process - guilt, anger, depression, and finally acceptance. The idea is to NOT get stuck at any of the stages (other than acceptance of course). You must be able to help yourself through this, and do not go it alone! Understand your possible anger and possible feelings of guilt, and try not to take it out on others. Yes, you ARE entiled to feel exactly how you feel, just realize it is a stage in the process. You are still in control. So TAKE control - use the time to consider options. And make sure you don't just mope about the house - get out into the sunshine or rain or snow - fresh air and exercise will not only help your body, it will help your mind and feelings about yourself.
