Your Resume can never be really finished -as your Career is never really finished! I am always amazed at how many people think their Resume does NOT need updating unless they are going for another job. What a waste of precious time!
You should always be prepared with an updated Resume - and if you make it a habit of updating and reviewing your Resume on a regular basis (at least every couple of months), then you won't be scrambling if you DO decide to go for another job or career!
As you go for another Training Session, or a conference, or have completed a complex project - THAT'S the time to update! When it is fresh in your mind (as well as others too -don't forget to ask someone to review your work). No, a co-worker does not have to see your whole Resume, but there's nothing wrong with asking a colleague to go over a few lines you want to add to your repetoire.
The more information, the better - you can always edit it down before sending a good copy to that potential job offer. I keep one HUGE Resume with EVERYTHING on it - it's about 10 pages (hey, I've been around a while!) - and I pick and choose what I want to put in the Resume I send out for a particular contract. However, I do keep most of my training sessions in there - just not all the conferences - if it does not pertain to the industry I am contacting, I'll skip a few - so that my final "send-out" Resume is still an acceptable two pages in length.
