Secret to Success

In a word - Communication

How do you communicate for your success?

Communication is the root of all success - be it in a personal relationship or a business one. Yet few of us really bother to pay much attention to the day-to-day communication so necessary to success.

Do you let all those little, irritating habits your co-worker or family member perform pile up, until you break down one day - screaming at the offending person? Do you politely ask them to stop whatever it is, or bother to find out WHY the person does that annoying (to you) behaviour? There may be a legitimate reason (and no, I don't mean because they want to annoy you!).

Do you forget to say "please"? More importantly, do you forget to say "thank you". These words are not just polite manners - they show respect to the other person. Saying "thank you" AND MEANING IT for a job completed/well done will go a long way in getting help again, or an even better accomplishment the next time.

Do you explain what it is you want - or just expect the other person to understand what you mean? Do you ask if they understand, or if they need more information, or if they need tools to complete the work requested? Do you think the person should just KNOW what you want? (this is a famous one for a break up of a relationship).

Yes, communication is a two-way street - but somebody has to start the flow of traffic. So what's stopping you?
