Read my other blogs Taking My Own Advice and First Step: Prepare the Resume to get an overview of the situation I now find myself in.
Starting over (or starting fresh, or new, or just starting!) is not easy, especially when that start entails being in another physical area that does not/cannot offer as many possibilities as before. Taking my own advice, I have begun a soul-searching career assessment. This will help me organize my thoughts, feelings and emotions; while empowering me with a true evaluation of what I want, where I want to go, and where/what I want to be. I'm at a crossroads, and I'm just not sure which path to take at the moment.
This is a new stage of my life, and today I am going kicking and screaming into the future. Yesterday I was calm and accepting. I imagine tomorrow I will be a combination of the two - which is good.
Marc Freedman's book Encore (See Review here) has an excellent section in the back appendix for those contemplating ANY kind of career change - heck, it works for any change! (Concrete examples of others managing their own change throughout the book help keep the motivation high. ) The emphasis for assessment is mostly for your own research, but he gives you some excellent starting points and questions to ask yourself.
And I come back to the starting point. Sometimes, to get ahead, or to get what we want, we come full circle. Which brings me to my next step - Education.
More on that next time!
