We're into the heat of summer, and tempers are starting to flare in some places. I think we often forget to slow down, and enjoy what we have around us. Summer is the time to relax the pace a bit. Yes, work still must continue, but at what pace? Traditionally, many take vacation at this time - it's rooted in us from our school days. Yet somehow, along the way, we started working during summer vacation - to earn enough to get us through the school year. As students though, we still partied - enjoyed our time off, even ensured we TOOK time off.
Now, as full-time working adults, we seem to have forgotten how to REALLY take a vacation - meaning enjoy time doing nothing that we HAVE to do. We tend to use our summer vacation time to "get the house ready" for whatever. Or we have to visit relatives.
Don't get me wrong - all those things are fine - IF you really want to do them. What I see more and more of though, is this idea we HAVE to do those things on our vacation. This creates tension instead of relaxing us.
What happened to just "vegging out" - with a Bellini or glass of your choice - in the backyard or on the beach? Why do we feel we have to produce or be productive, even on vacation? Heck, I've earned the right to veg out at times.
No wonder tempers often flare at work.
So, what are you doing to allieviate the situation? Me, I'm gonna do my part - get out the lounge chair, make a pitcher of Suite Bellinis, and enjoy the day! Care to join me?__________________________________________________________________
