The first step is often the hardest

Although the expected snow storm has just started, recently so many people have been exhibiting signs of spring fever - cleaning out their desks and looking to clean out their careers. I can't believe the number of clients this week I've seen who are all gung-ho to change careers, but haven't a clue what they want to do, or how to go about doing it!

Remember, the first step starts with you - and I am beginning to think this is the hardest step for most people. Think about what you like to do, what you want to do, what you hate doing, and what you can put up with. By the way, these thoughts can also be readily used for ANYTHING you want to change or rearrange.

If you're already well into your Career but feel you need a change or are stuck in a dead-end job - think about what you'd change - and think if you can change it where you already are! Often people just get bored with routine, so look for ways to challenge and expand yourself and your job - remember, the boss really is on your side - especially if you are ready for more responsibility in the workforce.

If you are just starting out but not sure where to start - you need to arm yourself with information - and again, you must still ask yourself what you want to do, etc. Then ask others how they got where they are today.

Don't be afraid to be honest with yourself, and don't be afraid to ask questions - of yourself and of your work environment.
